DPC Sharenting Survey
30th June 2026
To coincide with the publication of the 2025 Annual Report, the Data Protection Commission has also released the results of an independent survey on the practice of ‘Sharenting’. The survey, which was undertaken as part of the 'Pause Before You Post' campaign, was conducted in late 2025 to gauge public attitudes and knowledge around the practice of sharenting, prior to the launch of the information campaign and video. Therefore, it reflects parents’ awareness and knowledge before our hugely successful video campaign. Over 1000 parents were surveyed in both Ireland and France.
This initiative has been carried out in conjunction with our French counterparts, the CNIL. This collaboration was borne from our joint desire to highlight a data protection topic, relating to children, that is important in both jurisdictions. Both DPAs considered it important to raise awareness amongst parents about sharenting, which is becoming more prevalent and can have negative consequences for children’s privacy, autonomy and emotional well-being. We would like to acknowledge the input of our CNIL colleagues on this survey and the campaign as a whole.
