Further Update from the DPC regarding RTÉ's Prime Time Investigation
06th October 2025
The DPC has engaged with the Irish data broker referenced in the recent RTÉ Prime Time programme broadcast on 18 September 2025. At the DPC’s request, the company has confirmed that it has suspended all services involving location data relating to Irish users, for a minimum of 28 days. Our engagement with the company continues and we are receiving further information which will guide further regulatory action.
In addition, the DPC has now identified two companies based in two other EU member states. We are engaging with the data protection authorities of those member states who are competent for regulating these companies.
Finally, since the airing of the Prime Time programme there has been some public commentary regarding the online behavioural advertising Real Time Bidding (RTB) system. While the DPC does not generally comment on ongoing inquiries, given the significant public interest, we wish to confirm that the RTB system which is the subject of an ongoing DPC statutory inquiry does not disclose precise location data to third parties.
